If you have a beard, you'll want to take some steps to protect it now that winter is almost here, because winter can wreak havoc on your beard. Here are some simple steps you can take to ensure a healthy beard this winter.

Start with the Right Kit

When it comes to caring for your beard, you need to start with the right kit. You could go out and buy care products individually, but a good beard kit will ensure that you have everything you need. Not only that, but it will ensure that the products you're using on your beard are actually designed for beard use. Ordinary shampoos can dry out your beard while ordinary conditioners will leave it oilier than it needs to be.

Give It a Good Washing

Once you have your men's beard grooming kit, you'll need to make sure that you wash your beard once a day, especially during the winter. Your beard is going to need the extra cleansing during the harsh weather. Begin by using warm water to get your beard nice and wet. Next, place a couple drops of beard soap in your hands and work up a good lather. Once you've worked the beard soap into a lather, use it to gently wash your beard. Finally, rinse your beard well with fresh water.

Keep it Conditioned

During the winter, you'll want to finish off your grooming with an application of beard oil. Your beard will need a daily conditioning treatment during the winter if you want to avoid dry, dull hair. Place a few drops of beard oil in your hands and then gently work it through to every hair in your beard. Follow up with your comb to make sure that the oil makes it through your entire beard, which is crucial if you have a thick beard.

Use the Right Comb

If you've been using an ordinary plastic brush on your beard, you'll want to stop. The plastic can rip pieces of your beard out and will stretch the hairs. Not only that, but plastic combs aren't quite strong enough to hold up to beard hair. Instead, you need to use a nice sturdy wood beard comb. Comb your beard each time you wash it and then several times throughout the day.

Don't let your beard get dull and lifeless this winter. Use the tips suggested here to keep it looking lustrous and healthy all winter long.
